My dad's Ford Transit 250 Ecoboost (with 100,000 miles) is shifting roughly when accelerating and slowing down. There is also a check engine light on. What could the problem be?

When was the ATF changed?
It was never changed.
You may inspect the fluid condition. Check the FAQ to see if it is better changed or not.
