[Solved] Bad mechanic overfilled engine with oil

Hello,

On Tuesday I went to have my oil changed and obviously the mechanic was clueless as he sucked the oil from the top not draining it from the bottom and told me that nah I don't need a new oil filter.

On top of all that I realized that he also overfilled the engine with oil. Should I drain the excess oil ? I have an oil pump.

Thank you

Chris

That guy is not an honest mechanic. He should be held accountable for the crappy job he’s done.

Did you check it cold on a level surface?

You need to change the filter anyway, so you can drain some oil out then. Change your mechanic too.

Yes cold on a level surface. also I moved the car around 2-3 times on different places let it sit for 10-15 min and checked the dipstick multiple times

Update: Oil back to normal level, I took out quite a lot of oil.

It looks like he put his oil from his truck in yours.... ya, you got to change filter get all the Shavings {black}:shutmouth: out

And after all this (follow our above members recommendation), find a new mechanic or just do it yourself next time.

If he can’t even get a basic oil change right, he is not qualified to work on your car.

Honestly, I would do a complete oil change, including filter, at this point. As Carlos said, that oil does not look very clean.

Yes I guess you are right, my last oil change was 8 months ago so I think i will wait 1-2 months more and do it again properly

Yes, I would before it blows the front and rear main seals.

Should I pump the oil out with the engine on or off ? does it matter ?

OFF

My oil is nearly clear for several weeks after a change.

He obviously did not get much out.

I know, stupid guy

Good thing I do oil changes way ahead of schedule, about twice a year.

By how much do you guys think he overfilled the engine ?

Looks about 50%-70% but that depends on the exact shape of the motor so it could me much more or much less.

you DO need a new oil filter... drain that out asap until u hit 2nd line it could damage crankshaft. go ahead and change filter. i persoanlly use mobil 1 filter and mobil 1 extended performance oil every 5k miles

Hello what do you mean by " until u hit 2nd line "

dipsticks usually have two marks on them

Understood, mine has 2 dots instead of lines
