  • Hello,

My father in law has a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 with 166,000 km on it, transmission service was done at 100k.

For the last 2 days the transmission is acting weird, when you drive for a while and car is cold it is ok shifting but when the car is running for a while you can be at w light and the car won't move or it will move but won't shift and no reverse as well.

Shut the car off and in 5 min it will go for a bit and then same.

Check engine light is off

When is the last time the transmission was serviced? It's not very old but in real miles I think you're talking over 100K, so fluid and filter should have been changed at least once if not twice. Check transmission fluid level and condition. Have the transmission checked by a specialist with a professional-grade scan tool.

Transmission service was done at 100k, checked fluid level when warm and it is full.

100,000km , we are in Canada and the truck now has 165,000km

Fluid is about the only easy thing to check. It needs to be taken to a transmission specialist for diagnosis. Hopefully it's something not too bad like a failing solenoid.

Note that transmission problems are common on those vehicles:
