hi i had posted this question on this site a few days back Scotty my 2017 honda accord 2.4 engine auto trans cvt has 44.000 miles on it and is using around a quart and a half of oil at 3.300 miles went to local dealer here in wilkes barre pa and was told this is normal for this car to use a quart every 1000 miles I call honda and waited for days to get a call back and they finally got back to me today and there rep told me it is spec to use 1 quart of oil between one and three thousand miles I think this is unacceptable to use any oil in a new car my power train warranty is up at 50.000 miles help don't know were to go next I have had several hondas with no oil use at all i did change the pcv valve today to see if this helps as i found on line so said to do iI just bought this car A month and a half ago just made the first payment HELP PLEASE THIS IS CRAZY
this is definitely not normal. did you skip oil changes which result in wear causing it to burn oil? my dads 95 accord lasted 300k km and only got rid of it because the frame finally rotted after 22 years of canadian winters...
call/email honda in japan and let them know hopefully they can honour this and do a recall if its a common problem. ask them to change piston heads and rings
@jebrim
not to my knowledge were any oil changes skiped like I had said though I just bought the car a month and a half ago I bought the car with 40.500 miles on it I did take an extended warranty on this car with the dealer not honda I believe
If you just changed the PCV valve today, you have to wait and drive to see if it burns oil. Unless you already drove 3k miles today...
@mrrangerzr1
No I did not drive yet today just put the pcv valve in.I am going to be checking the oil every hundred miles or so to see if it changes anything when I talked to honda today they opened a case but told me this is normal
@mrrangerzr1
I am going to see if I can find a number for honda in Japan to contact them
@jcar356
Everything is normal to Honda. Ask them if their transmissions failing are normal, ask them if the VCM issues on the V6s are normal.
You should be good to go now with the PCV valve changed keep an eye on the oil level
@mrrangerzr1
I hope so will definitely keep an eye on the oil level I did like this car the ride and fuel mileage I traded in a honda 2018 CRV for this because of the oil dilution problem . MY luck
@jcar356
It's def not normal I have a 2017 with 60k miles zero issues SOME accord v6 had oil consumption problem but i4 no
How long have you had the car?
@yaser
I ahd the car for around a month and a half now made the first payment two weeks ago
Take it to an independent mechanic shop and ask him to do a dry and wet compression test on your engine. Your engine might be worn out (Maybe the previous owner did not change the oil or ...). Then you have proof that the engine needs work and since it is under warranty, the dealer should fix it for free.
@yaser
thank you that sounds like a good idea.
Have you removed and inspected the spark plugs? If the engine burns oil there will be a burnt residue on the spark plugs.
@trucker274
He already knows the engine burns oil. He just has to prove it to the dealer.
