2017 Mercedes slc 300 as a first car

Hey Scotty

I was considering getting a used 2017 Mercedes slc 300 as a first car. it seems like a more luxurious version of the Mazda Miata. I also chose the slc 300 because Mercedes are generally very safe while the Miata isn't. I don't care about reliability. I just want a hard-top convertible that isn't fast enough to get me killed. Do you think this is a good car to get? Also, what are some alternatives you would recommend?

thank you

Don’t be a fool.

Ironically, the car which you claim to be ‘safe’ isn’t crash tested in the USA - https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2017/MERCEDES-BENZ/SLC-CLASS#safety-ratings-frontal

If you’re really looking for advice, listen to @mod_man and get something that won’t leave you stranded (something which Mercs are notorious for).

If you want something safe & sexy, as a first car, get something ultra reliable like a Civic, where you can sharpen your driving skills while still having plenty of fun.

Getting a SLC 300 as a first car is just dangerous, on so many levels. Worst of which, you’ll be a risk to everybody else on the road, let alone yourself.

Type in ‘first car’ in the search box of this website & you’ll find excellent threads on what to get as your first car. And I promise you, a SLC isn’t part of the list.

Good luck & all the best.

It's your first car and you are starting off with the wrong mindset.

You SHOULD care about reliability unless you have cash to burn. Mercedes parts are extremely expensive and you aren't going to look very cool sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow.

Insurance is another thing to consider.

Excellent advice given - I would listen to them.  Also, for selecting a first car go to our Car Buying sticky:
