Hi!

Can I use 5w-40 on these charts?

I live in a tropical country Philippines.

Thank you.

I don't know how you managed to upload photos to this forum, but you shouldn't. Admins warned us that resources are limited. Please use offsite hosting.

Oh Im sorry...

Don't be sorry. You didn't know.

You don't say which engine you have, but either way don't use 5W40. If you have the 1.6 or 2.0 use 5W30. If you have the 2.4 use 0W20.

It's 2.4L

Than 0W20

No to 5W-40. Use what is recommended.

What is recommended in tropical country?
The recommendation in the manual are for cold countries.
What are starburst?

When it comes to viscosities, I personally would use any of the following with a preference of the bolded weight.

0W-20

5W-30

10W-30

10W-40

15W-40

20W-40

I personally wouldn’t use 5W-40 or any other XXW-YY weight, unless it was explicitly recommended by Suzuki in the owners manual or in a updated Suzuki document.

Ok thanks @kaizen

5w40 will flow poorly when you first start the engine. It will accelerate engine wear. It is not recommended.

I suggest using the 5w-30 oil.

Ok thanks

Thanks @razmig.

You mean I can't use this SN 5W-40 because it would be thicker for my engine eventhough it is fully synthetic?
I should limit my choices up to 30?

@mikeybihon
Well, you can use 5w-40 but it may be slightly heavier for the engine. You may notice some drag on the engine and decreased gas mileage. It's always best to go with the recommended viscosity.

It looks like 0W-20 covers almost every temperature range, so you can’t go wrong with that. Just make sure the oil you are using has all the abbreviations highlighted.

With that said it really seems like any of them listed will be fine, because it usually doesn’t go below 0 degrees Celsius in the Philippines. To my knowledge.

Thanks @Kaizen,

Here's what I've found....

So... To be clear, I could use any with classification of SG, SH, SJ, SL or SM or above like SN, right?
What I have is SN, so it is above?
Now about viscosity, I could only go up to 30? 40 would be thicker for my engine right?

Logically SN should be backwards compatible, but please double check.

The viscosity 5W-40 is NOT recommended.

It’s not just the 30 or 40 you have to worry about, it’s also the W, weight.

If you match any of the recommended XXW-YY ratings in the manual you should be fine. Specially emphasis on 0W-20 as that is bolded and probably the best choice.

Best choice for cold weather right? But I'm located at the flat lands of the tropics... Where it never reaches less than 20c... Thus the W for my location is not applicable, I think...
