Scotty,

A friend has a 2017 Nissan Murano Platinum with a 3.5  6-cylinder engine and CVT transmission, 4wheel drive (or is it all wheel drive). It was made in Mississippi. For about a month the car makes a whining sound when accelerating and it's not very audible when put in park but can be heard slightly when outside the vehicle. What could be the issue? The car has 40K miles.

The transmission was replaced, it was under warranty.

Thanks for reporting back with the fix. I’m glad it was replaced under warranty.

Probably the alternator. See the FAQ for troubleshooting tips.

Update: The Nissan dealer (the car's owner insisted it be taken there) says the whining noise may be something in the transmission. They are looking at the transmission and there is some warranty left. That's not acceptable for a transmission being on the verge of failure (I might be exaggerating but I don't think so) at only 40K miles. What could be the issue as far as the transmission is concerned?

bearings or pump. Either way trans has to come out.
