2017 Tacoma Rattle Noise

Hey everyone, I hope someone can help me with this issue. Occasionally, when I’m driving, my Tacoma makes a rattle noise. It sounds like nails being shaken in a tin can. The odd part is, this only occurs when I’m going up hill, and I hit the gas to accelerate, or when I’m going at a slow speed, and hit the gas to catch up to the other speed of traffic. I’ve looked all over forums and I cannot find the right solution to this fix. I hope someone can help!

You should first find out where the source of this noise is. Scotty has some videos on that.

Is it coming from the undercarriage?  If so, there is a bunch of thin cheap aluminum shielding on the underside of the car at least there was on my older Tacoma.  If some of that shielding is loose (mine was poorly fastened) that could be the noise.  It sounds just like what happened to mine and I just removed the shielding and the  sound went away.

Shortly after I posted this concern, I took my truck to the dealer and informed them of the rattle. I asked for them to inspect the entire undercarriage of the truck and they said it was all fine. I even drove with the tech to recreate the noise, so he could hear it. In the end, they could not pinpoint the source of the rattle noise. I’ve read on other forums that it can potentially come from the vacuum pump or the high pressure fuel pump but I am unsure if those parts can even make a noise like that. The noise is still there, and at this point I’m driving myself crazy finding out the cause for it. If anyone has any other suggestions as to what it can be, I’d appreciate the help!
