2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V6 133 545 kms and when I take my foot off the brake the brake lights sometimes stay on for a moment , if I tap the brake pedal they turn off . I have bin under and dash and found the senor and it seems fine , is it possible that the senor is bent or the rod going to the pedal bent ? I played around with it and tried to bend it ever so lightly to where I thought it should be and it works fine but will it last or do I have to fix it ! With this Buick you need to take out the gas pedal to reach the nuts you need to take out to get to the brake senor , is that the only way a fella can it get done or do you know a better or easier ?
Thank you very much Scotty for your videos and the service you provide ! I only wish I could find a honest guy like yourself to work on my car when I can't !
Odds are you just need a new brake light switch
Thank you , I was thinking the same but hearing it hear confirms it !
Again thank you for your service and honesty !
I had a similar problem with my Civic a while back. Not sure if Buick uses a similar system but on my car, there is a small rubber stopper piece attached to the brake pedal that touches the brake light switch when the pedal is depressed. With time and heat, those rubber stoppers get soft and don't contact the switch completely. After replacing that piece twice and getting my battery drained once I replace the rubber piece with a nut and bolt from the hardware store, making sure that the bolt head is the part that contacts the brake switch.
Yes I am pretty sure from what you described it's very close to the same set up , mine too has a rubber stopper with a rod going to the senor , I am pretty sure the rubber stopping is worn a bit and one time just before my issue I had to hit the brakes hard to avoid a driver in front of me who hit them super hard for a yellow light and I think the stopper gave out and bent the rod going to the senor but not 100% sure and if or when it happens again I will be taking Scotty's advice and replacing the full set up , safety first !
Thank you for your comment , it will help in knowing other cars are set up the same way only differing in placement and ease of fixing ! In a Buick you have to take off the gas pedal to get to the bolt to take off the senor but in many others cars you don't , the difference being a 45 minute job to a 2 hour job . Design flaw in my mind on Buicks part . Again Thank you !
