I bought a 2017 Tacoma with24000 moles on it. 2.7 liter 6 speed auto. The transmission seems to have a strange way of shifting. Is this normal and will it last?

I wouldn't call "strange" normal for a transmission. You should have warranty, take it to a dealer to check and be persistent something is wrong with drivetrain.
