2017 Volkswagon Tiquan 2.0L Turbo Woes

They want $2,000 to take off the intake manifold and walnut shell blast the valves.  How did we get into situation where in addition to wipers, tires, plugs, belts, etc that now I have to take the intake manifold off, because the PCV system wasn't designed to handle the the vapors in the crankcase.

VWs are notorious for poorly designed GDI systems that require that kind of cleaning at regular intervals. With GDI the intake valves are never cleaned by incoming gasoline. Some say an oil catch can can help.

If that price is from a dealer you may be able to find an independent mechanic to do it for a bit less money.
