2018 Honda Odyssey - Rear Brake Service Mode

Topic starter

Trying to find a cheap scan tool that will set the rear-EPB into service mode.

The dealer and a local mechanic are wanting to charge $400 for just the rear brake pads - not pads and rotor just the pads - I can buy both front and rear pads and rotors for that price and do it myself; however, I ran into this stupid service mode thing in the service manual and I don't have the Honda-Super-Secret service computer.

If I have to spend $600 on a scan tool that will put the brake into service mode then I might as well bite the bullet and have the shop do it (argh)

Never allow a dealership to work on your car.  They will rip you off.

Forget the dealer.  Find another local mechanic that has the bi-directional scan tool to set the ABS solenoids to do the job, or, if you want, buy one and do it yourself.

Hello Doc,
Thank you for link
As for local mechanic - they want at least $200 to set the brakes to service mode.

Anyone have some hands on experience with a suitable tool to set the EPB that a weekend DIY can aford?

(yep - a lot of money hunger going on since COVID) just this morning gas jumped another 20 cents overnight - they haven't even had a fuel delivery!!!

I feel your pain, brother.  Life sucks, then you die.

would be nice if it wasn't such a difficult life though

+ Looking at the scan-tools out there, by the time I purchase one I might as well have had the dealership do the work. 🙁
