Scotty,
for a few weeks now my 2018 RAV4 XLE is having an issue shifting from Park to Drive. Basically it is stiff when I tried to change from Park to Drive. After three or four attempt, it would get soft and smooth again, then I can shift with no stiffness or issue. It only happens when I first start the car. Once it works normally, it is smooth till I turned off the car and start it again, then it got stiff again. I then have to repeat the same cycle of couple tries then it works again. It felt almost as though there is a delay, preventing me from shifting until couple seconds or couple attempts, from the first attempt. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.
Do you let the car warm up a bit and then shift?
does this happen when you drive a car for a while and have a quick stop(for example in gas station)?
This happens whether the car is cold or warm. Matter fact, more time then not, I would remote start my car before I go to it, considering the fact that I live in the cold state of Minnesota. Regardless, so long as I turn off the car and restart it, it would have the same stiffness issue. Some times it also have the stiffness, if I put it in park for a few minutes. Usually the first attempt or two to shift, the stick would not go all the way to the right for me to pull down to R or D, in addition to the stiffness. But, then, it would allow me to eventually go all the way to the right and then shift to R or D, even if it still is a bit stiff. then it will eventually smooth up normally again.
