I bought the car from dealer at 7700 miles and now its at 9500 miles, 6 months in. I only use the car on weekends on mostly local roads.
Should I
1) Wait for 6000 miles for a oil change/ wait for maintenance light on ?
2) Go to dealer or independent mechanic if you think oil change is required immediately.

6 months is about time I would say. Hope you warm up your car before you drive it about since oil will sink to the bottom of the engine and you would want it to fully lubricate the whole engine since it's only a weekend car.
I'd hange the oil now. Generally dealers and some newer owners manuals say to change the oil at 10 even 15k miles but thats a risk for premature engine wear. Anyone on this forum will easily recommend you to change the oil every 5 6k miles, or 6 months.
