This morning I saw a man with a Tacoma while pumping gas. I talked to him and now I have been swayed. He had a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off-Road, manual transmission. I asked him how he likes it and he flat out said he has to replace the engine already. I was shocked. He says it has no power when towing anything and the gas mileage is about 16 at best. He advised me to just get a Tundra and never have to worry. I couldn’t believe the bad review, but after talking to an actual owner, I am going to be looking for only Tundras. Keep up the great channel.

My guess is he towed something too heavy. A lot of people make that mistake. If you want to tow, get a full size truck. If you want to seriously tow, get a diesel.
Realize that Tacoma is a simple truck and not designed for towing. Dis that guy tell you what he towed which resulted in replacing the engine?
With that being said, if you want a vehicle primarily for towing, you better off with Tundra.
That’s also a sample space of 1. Getting a new engine is not the norm on those. There’s more to the story that perhaps the owner was not sharing with you. Did he tell you how much he was towing before engine replacement? Will you be towing? If you won’t be towing anywhere near its towing limits then I wouldn’t hesitate to get a Tacoma. You can certainly do worse than a Tacoma.
I own a V6 Tacoma. His manual is a V4 with like 160HP, probably not ideal for towing. I tow a 2800lb boat with my V6 and I can barely feel it back there, it tows well, no problem
Can it tow. Yes. But I would only want to tow smaller things. ie; small utility trailer with like a riding mower, or motorcycle, or jetski, or a load of top soil/fertilizer, stuff like that. Any serious towing, nope. Check the owners manual, doesn't show a very large towing capacity. Toyota gets very specific in the towing section with specs.
The only thing I would tow with a Tacoma is a motorcycle trailer, nothing heavier.
