Does anyone have reliabilty information about the 1.6L Ecotec Diesel that is in the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. I read somewhere online that the engine is basically an Opel engine from Europe. Regardless of where it comes from, is there any long term reliability information out there about this engine option? I was considering it for purchase since I saw one on a dealer lot, but was a bit leary since it uses the new pollution control system with the adblue fluid.
Also, I recall Scotty having a video about teflon main seals on GM engines going bad at 30K miles. I am wondering if that applies to these diesel engines too. I looked on rockauto to see pictures of the main seals, and the rear one looks like a white plastic disc with rubber on the edge. Not sure if that means the diesel uses the infamous teflon seal too.
Bumping this to the top for you. I had no idea there was a diesel option for the Equinox, so unfortunately I can't give you any advice. However maybe someone will chime in with this back at the top. 🙂
It’s GM.... a company that should’ve gone out of business because they make bad products got bailed out by the United States government so they could continue to make bad products.
Even if that little diesel is reliable the vehicle wrapped around it is not. I’d stay away.
