Hi Scotty, Love your videos.
I have a 2020 Camry SE AWD when driving highway speed and outside temperature below -20 C the temp gauge won't go up to normal operating temp and would be about a quarter instead of the middle.
If I turn off the heater it would climb a bit but I don't wanna freeze driving here in Canada.
Should I change the thermostat or is that normal for it running in these cold temps?
It's normal. When driving with the heat on, coolant is flowing through the radiator at the front of the car and the heater core (small radiator) behind the dash. If you set the system to recirculate instead of fresh air, it will recirculate the air in the cabin and run a little warmer than if you have cold air from the outside (fresh) running through the heater core.
if the engine isn't at operating temp, how can coolant be flowing through a closed thermostat to the radiator?
