  • Hey, I was looking at purchasing a new 2020 Tacoma. I have heard that they are not as reliable as past generations. Would I be better off with a new Ford Ranger. (I am planning to keep it for many years). Thanks.

For Sure the Tacoma! That vehicle will be the least depreciating vehicle you have ever owned.

In all honesty, this forum is more for older vehicles, not for new purchases.  We just don't have enough data on 2020's.  What is the price difference?

@phaezamp
They are about the same, Tacoma is about 3K more for the models I was comparing.

Buy the Tacoma it will last longer than the Ford.

Of course, no one has any data on the new Ford Ranger, however, we can look at history in this case. I owned a 1992 Toyota 4x4 (that is what they were pre-1995) I drove it from 92' till 05' and sold it with 500K miles for guess what a Tacoma! Drove it until 17' sold with 295,000 miles and bought a 4 runner. All these vehicles required only a minimum of maintenance. Full disclosure, I have been very happy with them. 😀

Great, thanks.

Buy the Tacoma.  The Ranger will be worth half what you paid for it as soon as the front wheels pass over the curb at the dealership.  Remember what FORD stands for; Found On Road Dead!
