Greetings,
My name is Dionis, (like the greek god of wine, lol) and im from a poor eastern european country. Recently, about a year ago i bought my first car which i really love and take care of. It is a used Peugeot 307, 2007 , q4 year of manufacture. Mileage was 150.000 km on it, at the moment of buying. Now, a year later it is about 163.500.
I want to notice the fact that i'm really loving my car and putting a lot of effort and money into it. For example, i changed the headlights on it, repainted the bumpers, fitted the steering wheel and the gear knob in new leather, changed all braking disks, oils and liquids of course, multiple times, and installed an android tablet, and repainted the trunk, boot area, where the spare wheel rests, because i found rust there. No big technical problems whatsoever, and i hope it will stay the same for a long time.
So, my problem is such:
After buying the car i noticed that in the boot area where the spare wheel rests , there's some signs of rust. But no water at all. Then, the next time i checked this area, about 3 months later i noticed a big amount of water. (5 liters or smth). Of course i took all the water off, and started googling the cause. It was a really easy fix, found online, which was about the two ventilation valves resting behind the rear bumper, which due to time and atmospheric conditions lost their sealing proeperties, and the water was entering the boot area through them. What i did, was buying a sealant and sealing those areas. And that solved my problem. It is imoortant to mention that these events took place this exact summer. But, now, in november i noticed that if i go in my trunk(boot) area and i lift the carpet which rests on the spare wheel, it is somehow wet, and the spare wheel with all the instruments are covered in small drops of water even tho outside the rain was not present.
It is not a lot of small water drops, but i doubt it is such a condensate, because my instruments and tools which rest on the spare wheel get rusty. Any ideas what it might be? No signs of water inside. But it keeps condensating. Thank you in advance.
Given what you've said here, I would look at the weatherstripping on your trunk/hatchback. When you took it off to repaint, you may not have gotten it into perfect alignment, or it may have just deteriorated - it IS a 13 year old car.
It is probably left over moisture from when everything was soaked. The moisture gets trapped inside upholstery, liners, in crevices etc. Then the moisture migrates around as the temperature changes, condensing on the coldest parts. It takes a long time to dry it out completely. You need to park the car inside a garage for a couple of days with the doors and boot open. Use fans and heaters to speed up the process.
