Do you know if this engine have a problem with oil consumption? The oil was changed twice and each time I had to add a quart of oil less than 3k miles. I just recently got involved with the maintenance on this vehicle (just hit 18k miles) my wife brought this vehicle home without my knowledge. Recently, the vehicle have not been on any road trips, just inner city driving.

Start simple. Check for oil leaks first. It's entirely possible that something wasn't screwed in all the way when the oil change was done.
