In this case, I would choose Civic. Corolla hatchback has weak CVT transmission which showed some issues.
I mean. If you really prefer one over the other then get that one because they are both excellent. Historically, the Corolla's have been more reliable then the Honda's but just know that the 2019+ Civic's have fixed all their engine problems and transmissions have been worked on probably can do 200k+ miles in both.
The civic would be the more enjoyable option because they have better performance and are faster. The Corolla has been the Civic’s punching bag for decades.
Did you test drive them both? That would be my first step.
