Hey Scotty. Looking at a 2021 Elantra SEL and I'm wondering what you think of the Smartstream® Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). How does it compare to a CVT tranmission?
Regarding the Hyundai Motor Group’s IVT, see below: in short, don’t be a guinea pig. Hyundai Motor Group products already have enough issues as it is, and we are currently not recommending any of their vehicles due to poor quality/reliability.

Geez, what a surprise. It wouldn't surprise me if Hyundai made Nissan's Jatco CVTs look like paragons of reliability and durability in comparison.
Exactly! $8000 for a new (IVT) CVT in a brand new vehicle makes Nissan’s problems look mundane.
"IVT" is Hyundai-speak for CVT. Although I hate to judge before all the facts are in there's really no reason to presume it will be any more reliable than their other drivetrains.
