I read that the 2021 in all trims has this valve stem defect causing them to burn a lot of oil and shorten the life of the motor. My local mechanic said the valves harden after many miles allowing this to happen. He said there is an oil additive that will prevent this from happening. Is this true?
If it is still under warranty and burning oil updated valve stem seals should be installed at no charge.

I haven't purchased the vehicle yet and It appears Mazda is not doing a repair recall. I was just trying to get a second opinion on the oil additive fix.

Oil additives will not "fix" anything. At best they might provide some temporary relief but ultimately the defective valve stem seals will need to be replaced.
