I know you like Toyota, but do you recommend a Rav4 Hybrid?  Any downside on this purchase or not.

Thanks

If you're going to keep it for the long haul, I would not get the hybrid. The costs down the line are significant and you would be better served just opting for the regular gasoline engine. That way you don't have to worry about replacing batteries, etc.

If it is a short term purchase, the hybrid might be ok if you can capitalize on the MPG. When my wife and I were considering whether to get the Camry XLE or Hybrid, we hashed out mathematically the cost of fuel for the regular gas motor vs the premium cost for the hybrid. The regular gas motor wound up being the way cheaper option in our case.

I recommend doing the math. Depending on gas prices, the break even is about 150,000 miles.

IE, you would have to drive a hybrid at least ~150,000 miles to get your moneys worth versus a regular engine.

If gas prices go up, that mileage could be lower. If gas prices go down, that mileage could be higher.

Right now, with gas prices up, that number is probably lower.
