I see that the new Pathfinder has gone back to a 9 speed transmission. I've tried to find out who makes it and all I could find is that they license a Mercedes transmission design to build it themselves (through Jatco) for the Armada and Titan, but it didn't specify the Pathfinder. I can only assume it's the same tranny. Is this a dependable unit?
Nobody knows yet. Not enough out there with any kind of mileage at this time.
The Pathfinder transmission is sourced from ZF. It is a good transmission, however, companies like Honda and FCA have made bad use of it by throwing in crappy software in the ZF 9 speed and they had some problems. Nissan did a pretty good job in the tuning and programming of the transmission so that's a good sign. Still its a redesigned, so I would wait till it's been out long enough to know how it will hold up. If u rlly want one, just lease it.
