Hey Scotty,
I picked up a 2022 Ram 1500 TRX and have been following the first 500 mile break in procedures (RPM and speed limits) but the manual says no towing until 1500 miles and first oil change at 6000 miles or 6 months.
Do you think it's overkill to change the break-in oil at 1500 miles?
Seems to me if the break-in rules are 1500 miles, that would be the time to change it.
Love your videos!
Follow what the manual says. It may have special break in oil that's supposed to be there for 6000 miles, who knows? Do you want to take a chance and void your warranty because you think you know better? I would not.
I’m mostly with @doc on this one, but you might need to talk to your dealers service manager (you just bought a $90,000 truck from them, they should make time for you) to know for sure. If it has a true break in oil, then yeah, drive normal (don’t baby it, don’t go crazy) until the designated time, then change it.
But if it is just regular oil and that is the “standard” change interval, then I would probably change it sooner than 6000 miles. 3-5000 is probably more appropriate for a high performance supercharged motor like that if you want it to last.
Oil change intervals have been discussed ad nauseum on this forum, but I think your truck is a special case. It’s a big investment so I would maintain it aggressively.
Exactly. I just want to make sure I maintain it the best I can. Don't mind the extra money if the earlier oil changes will be beneficial.
