Scotty, I am looking at possibly selling or trading in my 2014 Toyota Venza XLE on a new Tundra TRD PRO. What do you think about the new engines offered on the new Tundra?
By the way, I now own a 2021 Highlander XSE, 2014 Venza XLE, and a 2014 Rav4 LE.
I love my Toyotas and hate to get rid of the Venza but have always wanted a truck and if it gets the same or better mileage than the Venza then I don't see a downside beside the price of course.
Your thoughts?
The 2022 Tundra hasn't been out for that long and it's a twin-turbo V6. If you want to test it out, lease it and if you like it, buyout your lease.
I would wait for them to see how they hold up over time but if u had to get one, lease it.
Why buy a new one and get killed on the depreciation? I would look for used and definitely non-turbo if possible.
The new engines in the Tundra haven't been out long enough to really be studied. Reliability at this stage is unknown.
I have given the new Tundra some thought, but I'm not sold on a twin-turbo V6 moving that heavy beast around for the long haul. It may be just fine. But I'm going to hang onto my pennies and let the early adopters be the guinea pigs on this one.
I wouldn’t worry about reliability. The TRD Pro is gonna come with a hybrid system, which means replacing a battery at some point. But the basic motor is not new (used in current gen Lexus LS, with no particular issues).
The problem is going to be supply (which might be low) and demand (which might be high). Waiting might get you a slightly better deal, but you can forget about any major markdowns on a TRD Pro, ever. In the meantime, inflation marches on.
In other words, you can overpay now or overpay later. Up to you.
