Scotty: Hello, from your old childhood stomping grounds! I purchased a 2023 Toyota 4Runner, six months ago, to assure I had one with the tried and true six cylinder engine. Manufacturer recommendation is fully-synthetic 0W–20 oil. I have read in chat groups that, allegedly,Toyota used to recommend a higher viscosity oil, previously, for the same 6 cylinder engine and they only changed the oil recommendation to increase mileage. Do you recommend going back to a higher viscosity? Respectfully, Dan

Page 527 of the owners manual clearly states the recommended oil for the 4L is 0W-20 GF-6A: https://ownersman.com/manuals/2023-Toyota-4runner-owners-manual
That's exactly what you should use to prolong the engine's life.
