My (adult) son wants to buy his first new car. Either a 4Runner or a CX-5? I told him both were decent cars and should last. Does anyone have any different views? Is one much better then the other? I figured the CX-5 would be less to insure, and much better gas milage.
any info would be great, thanks
Does he need a rugged SUV or a crossover or a regular sedan?
Just a new car, he will not be off roading.
Just a new car, he will not be off roading.
For best gas mileage, consider a Camry/Accord.
If he prefers the higher seating of a crossover, choose a RAV4/CR-V.
All the best!
The 4Runner is a bit of a gas guzzler. Probably not a great 1st car.
So I just picked up my brand new 4Runner and it's an amazing car. I won't be using it for off-roading or anything so just city driving. It uses a good amount of gas and it's not the cheapest suv out there. If money isn't an issue for him and he wants to have a car he likes then definitely go for it. But if money is a factor and also gas mileage then like everyone said above a Rav4 or cr-v or some Toyota or Honda sedan. One thing I will add is if he doesn't need a 4Runner and he will be financing the car then don't go for something that price; it's not the best idea paying a loan and interest for something you don't need.
OBVIOUSLY, 4RUNNER.
The CX-5 is a toy SUV, the 4Runner is a truck built to last.

4Runner if he goes off road, on trail, outdoor stuff often. If it is just city or highway driving, it is such a waste of an amazing machine.
CX-5 or RAV4 or CRV otherwise.
Unless of course he doesn’t mind paying for gas for a gas guzzler! Then 4Runner all the way. Probably one of the best cars Toyota or any car manufacturer makes.
