Hey Scotty,
Love the videos always. Keep it up.
3 days ago (nov 2 2022) my 2010 Camry 4 cylinder (123,000 miles) check engine and VSC light came on same time..First time ever my check engine light came on since owning the car brand new...
Today (Nov 5 2022) took the scanner and 1 code popped up. It point as crankshaft position error code... My family mechanic said it was low on motor oil... He pulled the oil stick out and it was extremely low.... I was shocked cause I did engine oil change early 2022... He put in 5qt of motor oil... Crank my car and the engine light and VSC light went off.....
He said it was due to low engine oil effecting the VVTI in the engine causing that crankshaft position error from the sensor... He recommend changing from 0w-20 (manuf recommended) to 5w-40 or 0w-40 due to the age of the car/engine and also slow the motor oil burn... Do agree with him also about that recommendation? Would you recommend 0W-40 or 5W-40 synthetic oil? Or stay 0W-20? Do you think something is wrong with my engine to be causing to burn oil?
I live in Los Angeles, CA.. Hardly ever cold weather.... thank you sir...
. Do agree with him
No. His advice is outdated. 40 weight is way too heavy and will cause more problems (especially in the VVT)
Use the manufacturer recommended oil, and just keep a closer eye on it. Check it every time you fuel up. Keep track of how much it burns.
You can try an oil system cleaning to try and reduce some of the consumption, and change the PCV valve too.
No always use the manufacturer recommended oil
