Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding my recent car purchase. After a lot of consideration, I decided to buy a brand-new 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback, Business Line trim, with the 180 hp 1.6 T-GDI engine (190 hp in the US).

After adding underbody rust protection, the out-the-door price came to $29,440 in Poland.

My second and third choices were the Toyota Camry and Honda Civic. All three cars are 2026 models.

Here are the prices in Poland:

  • Kia K4 Hatchback Business Line (180 hp): $29,440 (including underbody rust protection)

  • Toyota Camry (base trim + optional paint): $42,900

  • Honda Civic Sport (+ optional paint): $39,645

I know Kia doesn't have quite the same reputation for reliability and build quality as Toyota or Honda, but the price difference is staggering.

I've already purchased the Kia, but I still have two weeks to change my mind and return it.

Considering the significant price difference, do you think the Kia K4 was a smart purchase, especially if I maintain it meticulously?

My planned maintenance includes:

  • Changing the engine oil every 6,000 miles.

  • Replacing the spark plugs every 19,000 miles.

  • Replacing the rod bearings every 40,000 miles.

  • Cleaning carbon deposits from the intake valves when necessary.

Most of my driving will be in the city and surrounding suburban areas, with occasional longer road trips. I expect to drive around 9,000–10,000 miles (15,000 km) per year.

I plan to keep the car for 5–10 years, and I'm hoping to avoid any major mechanical issues during that time.

Do you think the Kia K4 can realistically last that long without major repairs if properly maintained, especially considering my driving habits? Or would spending an extra $10,000–$13,000 on a Toyota or Honda be worth it in the long run?

I'd really appreciate your opinions, especially from anyone familiar with Hyundai/Kia's 1.6 T-GDI engines.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Given Hyundai/Kia's very spotty (to be kind) reliability history, it's a roll of the dice at best. Many experience early mechanical failure - they are cheaper for a reason. We even have a special topic for Hyundai/Kia vehicles:
