Can a Toyota CVT last 200,000 miles?

I’m old-school like you. I am considering a Camry but also Corolla with my wife would like.

I prefer the standard transmission like in the Camry. Should I consider the CVT in the Corolla? If I’m planning on keeping the car 100 to 200,000?

I want to thank you Scotty for your YouTube videos. They’re great.

New or used?

100k sure.

200k might be a stretch for a CVT.

You have to understand that they might as well be a mystery black box.  Nobody repairs these, so they're disposable.

If you are buying a brand new Corolla then go for it. Toyota has been making CVT for a very long time now and they really know how to make good ones. Just remember to keep up with the maintenance (oil and oil filter change, and transmission fluid/cvt fluid change) and it'll last.

If we are talking bout CVTs with a belt - Nope very rare for that to happen.

If it's not an actual CVT but a it uses a PSD, like the latest Corolla HYBRID - then yes, , assuming good service.

They're incredible devices really.

2nd gen prius with the belt, and newer ones with the "transaxle" thingy are known to go for well over 200k, many I have heard pass 500k.

Taxis and uber drivers put tons of miles on them. I sold my 3rd gen prius at 180k running like new, but I did change the trans fluid at 80k, and again later.
