So I’ve got a 2007 Toyota Camry 4-cyl with about 120k miles on it. The car is in good shape but I didn’t know about the 2AZ oil problems when I purchased it. Even now I simply add about a quart of 0w 20 oil each time I fill the tank. (Thanks to Rural King that oil is fairly cheap 5 qts for about $15.)
Long term should I be proactively looking to get the piston heads and rings done or just keep putting oil in? If the repair is only $2000 it seems worth it if the car would make it to 300k miles.
This is for Indiana so no vehicle inspection to pass.
Also am I doing any damage by not getting an oil change? If it holds 4 quarts and I fill up once a week I figure the oil has been changed so to speak. Lol.
You are right.by adding oil frequently..you need not worry about oil changes...Maybe a filter once a year or two at best.
As for getting engiine work done - thats on you but then again...another car may side track you and interest you in the near future?
Something to think about in the meanwhile...
Man just add the oil and maintain it. Also, check it out every once in a while sometimes your lucky and you add oil and thats it but you would never want the engine to start falling apart for a minor reason. Repairing is expensive around 2500-3500 for a car worth no more than 5 6 grand. That would be your call.
