How reliable was the 2nd generation Ford Explorer (1995-2001) with the 5.0L V8 and 4 speed auto? Were they as problematic as the SOHC V6 and 5 speed auto?

If you can get it cheap enough they can be okay cars.

1. I remember them getting recalled (or NOT being recalled) for having bad tires and Ford blamed the tire company and vise versa, and people died because of it.
2. FWIW, not nearly as bad as the next generation, but still horribly weak transmissions: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Explorer/2001/
The tire company was Firestone.

I think Scotty made a video on a V8 explorer... I may be wrong though
