Hi guys . I appreciate your help on my Last post about not buying the nissan sentra and getting the corolla . It's alot better but now I need to know what oil change to get . The corolla has 177,000 miles on the dash . And what coolant to use .
Are you talking about brand it intervals? For intervals do whatever it says in the manual. For brand of oil and filter, you should be fine with a quality aftermarket as it is less about the brand as it is doing the oil change on time. For coolant I would just get the Toyota stuff as you know it is the right stuff ( some engines like Honda's can be picky), you don't have to change it all that often anyway, and it doesn't cost that much more than other stuff.
You should use the oil that meets the specifications on the oil cap. It's in your owner's manual. As for high mileage oil, Scotty's made it clear that kind of thing is just marketing. There's no benefit in so-called high mileage oil.
If you want to buy synthetic oil on the cheap, and if you have a Costco membership (or knows someone who does), you can buy TWO FIVE Quart jugs of full synthetic, produced by Warren Oil, for less than $30. Warren also makes Walmart's Supertech, which is available in 5 qt jugs. They are both just fine.
Filters: OEM filters are the safest bet. In other posts, I've offered up some evidence that the OEM filters are among the best, and they don't cost more. If you're DIY, go to the dealer, buy 6, and get a discount.
Coolant: What's in there now? Make sure you don't mix types. If it's a Toyota, it's either Red (OAT) or Pink (HOAT). If there's anything else in there, something let's say, greenish or yellowish, have that drained. Use the OEM coolant, as specified in the owner's manual.
General maintenance: Clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor and the Throttle Body. (Scotty shows how in several videos). Check your engine air and cabin air filter. Inspect the tires, and keep them at the proper PSI.
Older cars are like older people. They need more maintenance and attention, because proper health or running cannot be taken for granted. Maintenance at shorter, not longer, intervals.
No I mean when I take the car for in for an oil change. Should I do the high mileage conventional or synthetic.
Just use whatever is mentioned in your owner’s manual and you should be good to go.
They also have high milage synthetic. Honestly up to you. The car got 177k right? There is very little differences that they offer. The conventionals are basically if you wanted it for say Due to worn parts or if the car burns oil already conventionals are cheaper and more cost effective. Other than this I think most of us would recommend synthetic due to it lasting longer for the most part. There be no issues typically with the oil you choose. It's more in time with how many intervals you do the oil changes and cuz that's what people tend to forget. As for coolant. Whatever is the recommendation for it. I believe that Toyota coolant is pink or red.
buy mobil/castrol on sale - change every 5k full synth
for the coolant get it from dealer cost the same as other places - 150k /5 yrs
