2018 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

300K miles

LE Roseville CA | Toyota Dealership near Sacramento Folsom Elk Grove California 5TDBGRFH8JS039424

I have browsed these forums and the general answer to the high mileage question seems to be "everything is suspect at 300K."

However, this particular specimen is interesting because it's fairly new. In order to get all those miles in such a short time, it would be safe to assume the lionshare of them are highway miles, right?

Possibly, but you should never assume anything when looking at a used car. Even if that were true unless already replaced there are 300,000 miles on the suspension parts, bearings, and various other suspension parts not to mention normal wear items such as water pump, alternator, etc. That's also a heck of a lot of miles for any automatic transmission. They better be practically giving the thing away.

If you proceed better have a good mechanic give it a thorough examination before purchase. (That goes for any used vehicle.) If the stealership won't let you do that - run away.

@chucktobias Haha "Stealership"!!! That's a great term! Every car I've had I had to purchase used and every single time they've broken down on me the 1st week. Last time I paid $100 for an inspection with my mechanic pre-purchase. It broke down anyway--waterpump failed. They were nice though and applied the $100 to the repair cost. Since I don't know much about cars I find buying a used one really intimidating.
Once a "stealership" told me I couldn't keep my own AZ license plate. (That was a lie.) I got a used car and a new plate and a couple weeks later I started getting photo radar tickets in the mail with a picture of a Hispanic male speeding through intersections--I'm a pale white female 🤪 I think the guy worked at the car lot and was taking cars to a carwash with my license plate. He always looked so surprised in the photos 😳 So "stealership" is a great word!!! 🤣

From what I saw on the CarFax, the second owner most likely used the vehicle for Uber and/or Lyft. 50K miles per year is usually a good indication of that. And rideshare drivers usually drive hybrids.
