here in NJ a lot of people drive a tacoma. i want to stand out what MId-size truck would you recommend. im on a budget im looking for a reliable engine like a lexus ls 400. and something thats gas reliable nothing on diesel but fast enough. i cant drive manual it has to be automatic. but if theres a truck with both options ill take it. im open anything 1988-2004
In terms of a midsize truck, here are your options:
- Ford Ranger
- Chevy S10/GMC Sonoma
- Dodge Dakota
Just have a good mechanic thoroughly look it over because you're talking about vehicles that are least 20+ years old. Also, since 1988-1995 is in your range, there is no OBD-II ports there.
I agree. First gen ranger or s10. Keep a little $ in reserve for inspection and repair, and be prepared to do a lot of your own work.

@dad2lm2 I would suggest avoiding the first gen S10, my uncle was a mail carrier and would rip the transmission out of them very quickly. Even the little Dodge Ram 50 would outlast them, they were pretty tough little trucks. He went to toyota after the dodge and never changed brands again.
