4Runner keeps unexpectedly shutting off when idling

Scotty,

I have a 1999 Toyota 4Runner SR5 with a V6 engine and 260,000 miles that keeps unexpectedly shutting down on me when in rush hour traffic or at a stop light. I’ve found that shifting into neutral avoids the problem, but I’d like it be the way it used to run the last 22 years I’ve owned it. Toyota said OBD Codes showed nothing, but they changed the idle air control valve to no avail—the problem is still there.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Miguel
