Hey Scotty! I live in Illinois and I'm about to purchase my first brand new car. I'm looking for a family oriented vehicle that will last me a long time. Would it be better to purchase a 4runner or a camry with an AWD system?

If you want comfort and a more standard family car, get the Camry. If you want a more capable higher ground clearence SUV, get the 4runner. Both are excellent. Or you could meet in the middle and get a Highlander.

They are both excellent vehicles which are ultra reliable (going by their past record). You can’t go wrong with either.
If you need the higher ground clearance, pick the 4Runner. If you want a more traditional car experience & better handling, pick the Camry.
