My 2016 4Runner with 113K miles showed a CEL recently when I started it on a cold day but ran fine. I scanned it and got code P2443 (secondary air injection system switching valve stuck closed, bank 2). A local shop checked it out, manually operated the valve with the computer, reset the code and the vehicle has functioned normally since. They quoted me just over $1,700 for a new air injection pump, valve, and labor to install. Is this repair worth doing?
Well now that depends. If it runs fine otherwise. And you live in an area where they do not do emissions testing like where I am in Tennessee, you could just live with it. It is a known flaw in those vehicles. Toyota really should have fixed them for free but they're not going to do that
@scottykilmer Thanks for the help, Scotty. I’m in Michigan so there’s no inspections. Will it harm the engine or anything downstream (catalytic converters)if that system isn’t working?
