For all my muscle car fans. How much horsepower would it add when swapping a 5.0 into a 2000 Mustang GT. And is this even possible.

Well,

My GF had a 2001 Mustang GT with the 5.0 V8. It had 435 HP. Is that enough for ya?

We'll see what @mod_man says, but I'm guessing it's not a simple or cheap matter. What is the current engine?

I got a 4.6 V8 2V in it currently with 107000K miles manual transmission it’s been fairly reliable bought it at 60,000K miles 5 years ago.

The 1999 - 2004 Mustang GT's had 4.6L V8 2V motors making 260HP bone stock. I guess you are talking about wedging a new 5.0L Coyote V8 into the car.

Can it be done? Yes.

The list of issues, though, is long:

1. Just the price of the motor will surpass what the car is worth easy.

2. The 3rd Gen 5.0L V8's are junk. You'd want a 1st or 2nd Gen and even those had issues and were a lot less reliable than the 4.6L V8's were.

3. The transmission will need replacement to handle the extra power, and you don't want to use an MT-82.

4. You need a new rear differential as well.

5. All new fuel system

6. New wiring harnesses

7. New computer modules

8. A really good tuner to dyno tune the car

I'll put this in perspective: I have done swaps for the 5.0L Coyotes into the older Foxbody Mustangs. Those easily were in the $25k - $30k range before they were done. I'd say you're looking at similar.

It would be far cheaper to just go buy a 2011 - 2014 GT and drive it. HP would be anywhere from 412HP - 426HP.

The new 5.0L V8's do not impress me. They aren't reliable and are complex in design.
