Hey i was wondering if the 02 5.4 triton v8 had any problems and if the 08 and up tritons had any issues thanks
@5-4-Triton As said these trucks with 2 valves per cylinder had lubrication problems to the valves. They also had a problem where they would blow a spark plug right out of the motor. The 3 valve was better but still not perfect. When we were running these in a fleet it was really hit and miss how many miles we would get out of them. On average I would guess we got around 145,000 miles out of the engines with a few doing better and a few doing worse. The 5.0 is a much better V8 in the Ford.

There are two types of 5.4 the 2v and the 3v the 3v tend to blow motors a LOT because the cams have return spring like mechanism that allways fails after 150+k miles and the chain brakes motor blows and you will spend over 2.5k to fix it also the spark plugs get stuck on there and if you brake a plug in the head you have to pull the heads out which is also a pain in the rear bumper also the valve return springs brake a lot you will get a missfire and you wont be able to find out what it is untill you pull the valve covers and you will have to remove the heads for this as well soo if you want a 5.4 get a 2v
97-03 known to blow spark plugs out of head (2 valve) Requires heli-coil to repair threads.
04-07 spark plugs known to break off in head (3 valve) Tool kits are readily available to extract broken plugs.
Cam phasers (part of the variable timing system) can fail. Engine will sound like a diesel.
Phasers fail because of poor maintenance of engine oil. They operate by centrifugal force of oil that is pumped into them. The passageways are tiny and dirty oil fouls up the process.
An upgrade to a higher pressure oil pump is partial cure to variable timing woes.
For 04 and newer...Another solution is the installation of locked-in-place phasers and re-tune of engine computer. https://www.livernoismotorsports.com/product/LPP822133
