Hello Mr. Kilmer
My older brother owned a 2005 Honda Accord 2.4 that used 5w20 oil. Helped him get a newer 2012 Accord with the 2.4 and the new one uses 0w20. I have some Castrol 5w20 magnatec oil left over to use. Would the leftover 5w20 oil be ok to use in the newer 2012 Accord in the warmer months rather than the recommended 0w20? I'm pretty close to Boston and figure it would be ok as it gets warmer out. Thank you sir!
The 2012 Honda Accord always requires 0w-20 oil. Absolutely do not put in any oil viscosity that is not what it states on the engine's oil filler cap. Oil is cheap, car engines are not.
Here is the owner's manual:

Check for what engine is installed in the Accord. Is it is K24Z1 or K24Z6. Honda added under piston spray nozzles to cool bottoms of the pistons with oil to K24Z6 and that requires 0W-20 oil. K24Z1, however, can use either, 0W-20 or 5W-20 - it has no oil spraying jets.
