They are decent without the ecoboost engines. There are options for Cyclone or Ecoboost engines and you definetly want to have the Cyclone in that case. They are decent as I said but a 1st generation Ford Fusion might be more reliable. It depends on what you want and the price range. They go for basically nothing because of horrendous resale value and with low miles you might get your moneys worth then again it a Toyota Avalon would last 3 times as long and be more luxurious, all for around the same price of the Taurus just 4 5 years older.

The 3.5L and 3.7L V6 Cyclone had the water pump located to the valley behind the timing cover and is driven by the timing chain, so when the water pump eventually goes it will take out the engine.

Oh its the 3.5 and 3.7? Then you would want to avoid it, this also includes the Fusion V6. The eco-boost isn't that well made either. You could look for a 2015+ Ford Fusion 2.5 if you could afford it (lowest class engien anyways). Or just get a Toyota Avalon and be happy;)

Overall they are decent cars. They have strong transmissions and a bunch of engine options, but some of them being Eco boosts. They share the same platform as the explorer, so parts are not to hard to find. But it is a modern Ford and maintenance is crucial. For all Tauruses the transmission fluid needs to be changed with each engine oil change (you only get about 5 quarts out). This is necessary due to the filter being inaccessible without splitting the transmission and you want to keep the filter from clogging. With the AWD Tauruses, the PTU (power transfer unit) also needs its oil changed every oil change. This is due to the lack of air flow and it overheats the oil easily. Otherwise they are fine.

I have a 2016 SHO.

The non-EcoBoost cars can be ok. The interiors are much nicer than previous generations. Just don't pay too much for it and make sure you get it checked out before you buy.
