Scotty im wondering about the Ford 351 V8. is it a reliable engine? i had a 1985 F150 V8 with the 351 V8. unsure about the miles, the odometer read like 14k but i was told the odemeter was likely turned over. its a 4x4 with an automatic transmission.

You need to perform a wet/dry compression, and leak-down test on the engine.

I assume you're talking about the 351 "Windsor" engine since the last year for the 351 "Cleveland" was 1974.
It's a derivative of the Ford 221/260/289/302/5.0 V8 introduced in 1962 and is quite reliable. However when looking at 40-year-old vehicles the way they've been treated and maintained over that time period is going to be the most important factor.
