1982 Trans Am exploding brakes

I have a 1982 trans am that I’m restoring with 96k miles. Earlier this year the car would smoke by the brakes. Even if I didn’t stop and go. At one point they exploded and I only drove like 4-5 miles. I got it towed to my mechanic and now it’s happening on the other side. And it’s not pulling on the side that got repaired. What could this be? My mechanic told me that my caliper froze and that’s why it exploded. But I took it for a 1-2 mile drive and it happened on the other side and it makes a weird sound as well.

You're playing with an almost 40 year vehicle. Were the brake lines ever redone? If not, then I would make that a priority because it's a death trap.
