[Solved] 83K 20 year old Tacoma too old to change transmission oil?

I am an original owner of a 2001 Toyota Tacoma base model with just 83000 miles on it. 2.4L 4 cylinder 4 speed automatic transmission. I don't drive it that often, especially in the last 5 years. I have done scheduled maintenance regularly, mostly at the dealer. I was surprised that unlike my 89 Tacoma the maintenance schedule never called for transmission oil change. Then I watched your video on this and now I am planning on taking it to the dealer and have them change the transmission fluid at the next oil change. However, you pointed out this could be problematic for higher mileage transmissions so I am unsure if my Tacoma is too old with too many miles to risk changing it ?

I do have it serviced at the dealer and change the engine oil about every 3-5000 miles. But it may take me 4 years to put on that mileage. I figure the oil has been in the ground for millions of years it can sit in my car for 4 or five years :).....or am I wrong. Thanks Scotty!

It's not transmission oil. Automatics take transmission fluid.

@doc

Does your engine take engine fluid too?
