I want to add a manual switch to my cooling fan. I saw a video where only one wire needs to be connected to the relay and then grounded. I am not sure if that is a good idea. Plus should it be connected to the positive or negative to by-pass the relay? What would be a better way?

A better way would be to get the correct fan control module for your vehicle so the fans work correctly.
