I have a 87 nova/corolla 15,000 miles automatic 1.6 liter engine, runs fine down the road, will not idle put a casket kit in it helped some still rough idle, 1 more question a 3/4 inch line metal from exhaust runs to a rubber hose runs look like some kind vacuum on the air filter blows hot air. it comes up between the engine and the fire wall.

Well it sounds like somebody is really rigged that thing perhaps bypassing the EGR valve. Does Carl engines are pretty good I would check for vacuum leaks and maybe even plug that hose up for a second to see if that's part of the problem cuz it's routed wrong
