My friend has a 90 vette with the 6spd and headers, it misses a little at idle (check engine light comes on some of the time it is egr related he says, something about carbon), but the reason im here is he got a quote for a tune up for a little over $600. I said to him why would you go there and pay that, just do it yourself its basically a regular 350 chevy engine. Scotty is he crazy for thinking thats an acceptable price to pay a shop?

That IS an acceptable price to pay at a shop.
Especially since there could be more issues lurking with that CEL on. Have you ever worked on a Corvette? They are PITA's as there's tight spaces and fragile electrical wiring everywhere.
$600 is a deal I'd take all day.
